Exeter

Exeter is a historic and important community in Rockingham County. Exeter makes up the southwestern terminal of current COAST services, with Route 7 operating weekdays. Notable destinations include the Exeter Hospital, the historic downtown, Phillips Exeter Academy, and a passenger station along the Amtrak Downeaster route.

Greenland

Greenland is a small town between Portsmouth and Stratham. Greenland is served weekdays by Route 7, traveling between Exeter and Portsmouth.

Newington / Fox Run Mall (and Pease)

Newington is a small town located between Dover and Portsmouth. Although COAST does not serve the town center of Newington, several COAST and Wildcat Transit bus routes serve the Fox Run Mall, located in Newington. The mall is a major destination for bus riders as both shoppers and employees. Newington is also joint home (along with Portsmouth) to the Pease Tradeport, a former Air Force base turned into a major employment, trade, and retail development.

Newmarket

Newmarket is a primarily residential community between Durham and Newfields (Newfields is not served by COAST). Newmarket is the off-campus housing choice for many UNH students. Newmarket is served from UNH by Route 5, and from the Exeter/Stratham area by Route 7. Connections between the two routes are made at the downtown gazebo or the Newmarket Library.

Portsmouth

Portsmouth is a large community serving as a southern hub for Rockingham County. Portsmouth is a historic waterfront city with diverse residential, retail, artistic/entertainment and business development. Portsmouth is comprised of several regions, including part of the Pease Tradeport (see Newington for more information), residential areas, Market Square (downtown), and retail/residence on Lafayette Road (US Route 1).

Portsmouth by Route (where all those buses go):

Route 2: Serves the Fox Run Mall (Newington), Woodbury Ave to K-Mart/Market Basket Plaza, Market Street into downtown, Hanover St. Parking Garage (connect with Greyhound), and terminates (or originates Northbound) at Market Square.
Route 4 is operated by UNH's Wildcat Transit, and is open to the public just like COAST buses. It serves Durham/UNH to the Fox Run Mall, Woodbury Ave (including residential), Maplewood Ave, Hanover St. Parking Garage (connect with Greyhound), Market Square, Islington St to Plaza 800, and the Bartlett St. neighborhood.
Route 7 connects Portsmouth with communities west to Exeter. Route 7 connects with Route 40 (the Pease Tradeport Trolley) at the Portsmouth Transportation Center, from which you can reach the rest of the city.
Route 40 is commonly known as the Pease Tradeport Trolley, which serves Market Square, Islington St to Plaza 800, Borthwick Ave (including Portsmouth Regional Hospital), Pease Tradeport, Gosling Road and on to the Fox Run Mall.
Route 41 is the other half of the year-round Portsmouth Trolley system. It is commonly known as the Lafayette Road Trolley. It serves Market Square, Court St, Middle St, and Lafayette Rd. Major points include the Portsmouth High School, Crossroads House shelter, Lafayette Plaza, Market Basket, the Community Campus, Southgate Plaza, and Portsmouth Wal-Mart. The end of the line is just beyond Ocean Road, where the bus turns around at Hillcrest Estates and returns to Market Square.
The year-round Portsmouth Trolley routes (40/41) run hourly with two trolleys heading opposite directions. This means you can (usually) get on one trolley and stay on through the other route. For instance, if you live near Middle Street, you can take the Lafayette Trolley inbound, ride through Market Square without paying again, and continue on to the Fox Run Mall. The Trolley routes are only 50 cents per trip, instead of $1.50 like most COAST routes.
