Saturday, December 19th, 2009: Full service, fare free

COAST will be operating WEEKDAY SERVICE schedules on most bus routes on Saturday, December 19th, 2009. Normal Saturday bus schedules will be replaced by operating a full level of service on the last Saturday before Christmas. At the peak of the holiday shopping season, seacoast residents will have an alternative to sitting in traffic or searching for parking.

Additionally, COAST is pleased to be able to offer this special service day to passengers FOR FREE. COAST will not be charging any fares on Saturday, December 19th.

On most other Saturdays during the year, COAST is only able to operate a limited level of service - a single bus on Route 2 and a single Trolley in Portsmouth. Although we often receive requests to run more Saturday bus service, COAST does not currently receive enough funding to support more service on Saturdays.

After considering the current economic conditions approaching this holiday season, we examined our available resources to see what extra service COAST could provide. The Board of Directors supported our request to operate all of our major bus routes on Saturday the 19th. Additionally the directors voted to operate service at a zero-fare for the day.

Our goal is to encourage both regular riders and new riders to try the bus on a weekend notorious for slow travel and difficulty finding parking while out shopping. Seacoast residents will be pleased to find clean and modern COAST buses bringing them within a few steps of hundreds of local businesses. Our buses are driven by friendly, knowledgable, and professional operators. Our operators are trained extensively to provide a safe and comfortable ride. It is our mission to provide transportation that is comparable or better to using your car. We take great pride in achieving those goals.

Holiday 2009 service change information

From Wednesday, December 16th through Saturday, December 26th, COAST will NOT SERVE THE CROSSINGS AT FOX RUN BUS STOP. We do this each year to circumvent heavy traffic between the Fox Run Mall and the Crossings plaza.

Route 2 south, Route 7 west, and the inbound Pease Trolley will all serve a temporary stop on Woodbury Ave near Bugaboo Creek.

Route 2 north will serve a temporary stop on Woodbury Ave at the former Tweeter location.

Trolley outbound (towards the mall) will remain on its normal route down Gosling Road past the Meadows apartments.

Christmas Eve service

On Christmas Eve, the following routes will end service early. Please plan ahead. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Route 2: Last run NORTH from Market Square will leave at 6:25PM, arriving in Rochester at 7:47. The last run SOUTH from the Lilac Mall will leave at 6:55, arriving in Dover at 7:35. That run will NOT continue to Portsmouth.

Trolley: the Pease Trolley will run its entire schedule through the 6:05 run. The last Lafayette Trolley will depart Market Square at 6:20pm, returning to the Square at 7:02. There will be NO TROLLEY SERVICE after 7:18pm.

All other routes and services will run as scheduled.
