The Cooperative Alliance for Seacoast Transportation, more commonly known as COAST, has received a $30,000 grant from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, made possible by gifts from the Barbara K. and Cyrus B. Sweet III Fund and the Thompson Family Fund. The funds will help to support COAST's recently expanded free ticket program for recognized nonprofit agencies that have programs for and provide services to people experiencing homelessness and/or people in addiction recovery.
"Everyone deserves access to opportunity. COAST is a reliable link between health, social and other support services and ensures people across the Seacoast can connect with what they need to succeed," said Rad Nichols, Executive Director of COAST. "Our free ticket program removes the financial barriers to transportation for those who need it most."
Identified recipient nonprofit agencies/organizations that are physically located in COAST's service area, along with municipal Welfare/Emergency Service Departments located in COAST member communities, may request a total of up to 3,000 free single ride tickets within a calendar year for use with individuals experiencing homelessness or in addiction recovery.
After a minimum of 3,000 donated singe ride tickets has been reached, qualifying agencies and municipalities are permitted to purchase single ride tickets at an discounted rate of 60% off full fare value ($0.60 per single ride vs. $1.50).
"Tickets provided through this program have been in incredibly high demand," said Nichols. "COAST is delighted to provide this expanded level of support to the community and we're so grateful for the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation's investment."
